UBIDS: SRC Aspirant Miss Vawurah Khadi Priscilla (Mother4all) and Zoomlion Ghana Embarked on a Clean-up Exercise in Bamahu

As part of Miss Vawurah Khadi Priscilla an SRC aspirant of SDD UBIDS policies, Team Khadi collaborate with Zoomlion Ghana Ltd to clean up Bamahu Community.

The incidences of the outbreak of cholera and other acute infectious diseases especially in the country are largely caused by poor sanitary conditions that characterize these areas. Unregulated waste disposal, open defecation among others create conditions that pose adverse threats to the health of residents.

In Bamahu, a University Community in the WA municipality of the upper West Region of Ghana, certain spots with landfills were identified as potential dumping sites that could trigger the outbreak of cholera and other infectious diseases. This was a danger that needed the attention of stakeholders.

Miss Khadi Priscilla Vawura, popularly known as Mother for all, seeing how this problem of poor sanitation could affect both students and natives residing in the community, saw it necessary to launch a cleanup campaign to reduce the level of, or eliminate completely whatever health and environmental problems the landfills could cause.

Miss Khadi took it upon herself to mobilized volunteers and solicited the partnership of zoomilion-Ghana for the successful execution of a one-day clean up exercise in the major landfills in the community. This exercise was yesterday, 10th April 2021 undertaken successfully.

The SRC aspirant looks forward to collaborating with primary stakeholders in executing large-scale clean up exercises and education programs with the sole intention of overcoming the problem of poor sanitation in the community, she calls on government departments to intensify sanitation efforts not only in Bamahu but in all rural communities.
