NAA and IRI embark on Project MH 360

On the 7th of April 2021, Necessary aid alliance in partnership with Infinite Research Institute paid a visit to the Sankana D/A JHS in the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency of the Upper West region.

The purpose of the outreach was exclusively founded on the intertwining resolve of the two partnering organizations to bridge the gap in menstrual hygiene and health literacy among teenage girls who reside in deprived areas of the country to enable them cope with the many challenges associated with the occurrence of the biological phenomenon of menstruation.

In response to the increasing cases of teenage girls consistently absenting themselves from school during the break out of their menstrual cycles, Necessary aid alliance and infinite research institute took an educational tour to the Sankana D/A JHS to provide pertinent lessons to all teenage girls on the nature of the phenomenon of menstruation and how they can cope with its occurrence while attending school lessons.

To this end, a team of ladies from the two organizations had a special session of friendly discourse with the girl child where they illustrated the proper way of using sanitary pads to avoid the negative effects and difficulties of the menstrual period.

Sanitary pads were distributed to about all teenage girls who were present in school with each girl taking home at least two pairs. As a way of encouraging academic excellence among the students, exercise books, pens, and other learning materials were awarded to the best-performing students.

Ten (10) bottles of Liquid soaps and 30 pieces of nose masks were also presented to the school as a way of helping them reduce the danger of COVID-19 infection.

Whilst we look forward to raising funds to initiate large-scale projects to address this common problem, we call on the government to intervene with pertinent policies to help the girl child.
