AN OPEN LETTER TO THE SRC PRESIDENT ELECT FOR THE UNIVERSITY FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES-WA: MR. ABLEDU BRIGHT SAKYI (NENE1)

With a cheery heart coupled with high hopes and expectations, I write to congratulate you on your election as the SRC president elect for UDS-WA campus.

Your victory at the poll yesterday (8/04/19) has come to confirmed the findings of the “Samuel Nanewortor , commonly known as Efo Sammy 's” lead research conducted to possibly predict the outcome of the elections. In that particular research, it was predicted that even though Nyass Mahama is more popular and hail by many, you are their preferred candidate. The student populace has high hopes and faith in you especially your team. Its our prayer that you don’t toll the path of your forerunners by neglecting competency for shallow noise makers.  Mr. President elect, the election has come and gone, it’s time to make the dream a reality. Let me re-sound this words in your ears again that, students have confidence in you as shown in their votes.

Mr. President elect, permit me to say that it’s no longer the time to play the  blame game. We do not want to hear the usual “Management has refused to approve funds for us to run our projects excuses or we are working on it excuses and worse scnerios such as SRC is only to care for the entertainment of students’ kind of stories your forerunners have told us. We have heard it over and over again such that our marginal utility has reduced to the plainest minimum. As a leader, by now I expect you to have your strategies for convincing management to support you with funds to run your projects. I am also optimistic you have plans in place to raise funds from external sources such as Guinness Ghana, MTN, McDAN Group, Indomie, SIC, Vodaphone and other prominent individuals who has interest in such activities. If you haven’t yet, I advise you give it a thought.

Mr. President elect, I know you are aware about the bad state of our lecture halls. Public address systems (poor), Funs (very poor), lightening systems (poor), Projectors (very bad), marker boards (shaking my heard lol). Ohhhh, I need not to remind you that we need battery in the clocks in the lecture halls. Mr president, I didn’t want to mention the fluctuation in our Wi-Fi-networks and many more that I wish we have.

Mr. president, on campus security, come out with clear policies to tackle arm robbery and other related crimes especially during examination periods. Also, do you agree with me that we need to fix the street lights en-route Upper West hall?

Mr. President, I understand the entrance project is not part of your policies for 2019/2020 academic year but I suggest that you reconsider and expedite its execution because the same research that predicted your win has also indicated that more than 50% students of show much interest in the entrance project. We understand plans are far advanced for its commencement and I pray you work on it.  Mr. President, in a speech delivered to the General Assembly on Tuesday 5th January, 2019 at the Spanish lab. The President H.E Seth Duodu has indicated that the funds for the project is ready but the only hindrance now is procurement procedures. I think its good news hence my request that you look into it for us.

Mr. President, I intend to make this message brief but let me also put it on records that over the years, Youth Parliament has been tagged by many SRC/NUGs executives and some corrupt leaders as antagonist rather than protagonist and I want to discredit such claims in just a brief.

Our vision as youth parliament as enshrined in our standing order powered by National Parliament of Ghana states “The youth parliament seeks to inculcate into the youth the values of democratic practice; instill and reinforce positive attitudes that will model them to be agents of positive change with a vision to rebuild a new Ghana full of grace, prosperity and integrity”

One of our objectives also states that  “To promote accountability and transparency among community leaders, heads of government departments and other stakeholders of community and youth development”

Mr. President, based on the above, we have made attempts to hold our leaders accountable to students but regrettably, we are repetitively misconstrued as antagonist. Dear Mr. President, we are at Youth Parliament should rather be seen as partners to help achieve the desired goals.

My advice is that anytime/any day Youth Parliament calls on you, do not hesitate to answer our call. We are here to support you, management and other stakeholders in achieving their goals in the best interest of students.

Finally, Mr. President, remember in politics, there is no permanent enemy nor friend but just a game of interest. Let your administration be accommodative to everyone, be a good listener and form a united team, remember who you surround yourself with shall have a great influence on your policies.
May the peace of the Lord be upon your life.
May Allah strengthen you. Amen!  Amen!!

Congratulations once more Mr.Abledu Bright Sakyi (Nene1)
