UDS Nyankpala Campus: “Disqualified” WOCOM Aspirant Sues Vetting CommitteeS: “Disqualified” WOCOM Aspirant Sues Vetting Committee

A NUGS Women’s Commissioner aspirant [2018/19 academic year] of the University for Development Studies Nyankpala Campus has petitioned the Judiciary Board over her disqualification. Ms. Salifu Alhassan Amamata was disqualified on grounds described by the vetting committee as “falsification of documents”. There was an alleged case of forgery of a signature on her nomination form.
Her vetting took place on the 1st of March, 2019. She had 62.3% of the marks (passed mark is 40%). The aggrieved student was however not happy with the decision of the vetting committee and therefore has resorted to the Judiciary Board for closure.
The plaintiff, Ms. Salifu Alhassan Amamata is seeking the Judiciary Board to reinstate her candidature. The counsel for the plaintiff among many as points argued that her disqualification was based on a “crime” for which its punishment has not been documented in the SRC constitution and therefore is in contravention to the 1992 constitution of Ghana.
Here is an excerpt of the petition.
The Judiciary Board has put an interlocutory injunction on all activities of the Electoral Commission until finality is brought to the petition.
The Judiciary Board started the hearing of the case yesterday, the 13th of March, 2019. The hearing was adjourned to today. The board shall continue its proceedings at 4pm.
More on this as the story unfolds.
