EOCO arrests two persons for removing computers from Zylofon Media office

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), has arrested and detained two persons for removing ten computers from the premises of Zylofon Media at East Legon in Accra.
According to the EOCO, the two attempted removing the computers after the publication of the court order freezing the assets of the Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, and other related businesses owned by him.

Zylofon is noted as one of the businesses owned by Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1.

Jacqueline Avotri, the Head of Public Affairs at EOCO, said the office will not disclose the identities of the two persons.

Shea said the move “was to enforce the court order confirming the freezing of properties of Menzgold Ghana limited and other associated companies.”

She also warned that “any act by any individual to obstruct the work of this office will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

Nana Appiah Mensah became a major player in the entertainment industry following the establishment of Zylofon Media.

Mr. Appiah Mensah gained popularity in the showbiz industry upon the establishment of Zylofon Media which signed onto its labels top musicians and actors including Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Zynell Zuh, among others.

Following the order to freeze the assets of Nana Appiah Mensah, Zylofon FM and Zylofon TV also put operations on hold.

EOCO in a release on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, said assets of Nana Appiah Mensah including landed properties and Vehicles of MenzGold Ghana Limited, MenzGold Office Complex, Zylofon Art Complex, Brew Marketing Consult, Star Madrid Football Club, Zylofon Music and Media Company Limited, Brew Energy Company Limited as well as G-Tech Automobile Service will be frozen by the court order.

Two properties located at Trassaco Valley, an uncompleted residence and 510 acres of land were also frozen.

EOCO also advised family members of NAM1 as well as associates in possession of such properties to submit them to EOCO in their interest.

“By this news release, all employees of the affected companies, relatives and friends who are in possession of any of such properties are to surrender same by the authority of the high court to the Economic and Organized Crime Head Office and Regional Offices in their own interest. Failure to do so will constitute contempt of court which will attract the appropriate sanctions,” the statement read in part.”

Menzgold was ordered to halt all operations last year by the Security and Exchanges Commission (SEC) following investigations that they did not have the licence to operate.

In their quest to retrieve their investments, some customers have asked that his assets are frozen. NAM1, who has an arrest warrant on his head is expected to return to Ghana after he goes through a trial in Dubai over a gold deal in that country which has reportedly gone bad.

Lawyer for some aggrieved Menzgold Customers, Amanda Clinton, has described as welcoming news the confiscation of Menzgold’s assets by EOCO.

According to her, “it is certainly good news” for Menzgold customers in their quest to retrieve their locked up investments.

The lawyer described the order from EOCO as the first real confirmation from a recognized state body and the Government of Ghana that Menzgold Ghana engaged in some fraudulent dealings.

“This is the first real confirmation from a state body and the government that a crime has been committed, because before people had labeled it, but when Menzgold took the SEC to court, the matter wasn’t determined in terms of a fraud that had been committed. So this is the first time a court has been made that clear… So that’s very good.”
