University For Development Studies (UDS) Wa campus students live in fear.

The Student Populace Of the School after several  failed attempts to get  their plea of the abysmal Security conditions  of the Campus to be addressed  has been woefully forsaken by the necessary authorities, not once  or twice but On several ooccasions it has been reported of Students of UDS Wa Campus been subjected to  robbery ,rape and assault by unscrupulous People.

 It Vividly comes to  mind when two men Mr.Sulemana Ahmed and Mr.Alhassan Solahudeen in April last Trimester at around 8;40 Pm  were robbed of their belongings and also in the course of the robbery, Mr.Ahmed been  Severely assaulted by  a heavy built masked men who attacked them, the tow men may not have been the only ones others also suffered the same and some even more than what they experienced.

It can be recall that a  WhatsApp group was created to convey questions about the lighting system and to the then SRC administration  in which the former SRC Public Relations Officer in the group called The Voice of UDS answered questions on the lighting systems and how the then led Hon.jarah administration took steps to solve this canker, I stand to be corrected, the PRO of the then administration made a submission that The former President met with the interior Minister and was assured of a police station till date no sign of police station not even a proposed site, it was the expectation of the students to get an update from the new administration, the Trimester is at it maturity stage and would soon get older and fade off, not even a single piece of information has been released yet. ( Still hoping for one).

The school has security men who are to protect and guard students property and the school facilities as a whole but often than not we hear that motor bike has been stolen especially when an event is going on on Campus in the night. Part of an  article written by one Amoah Richard states " The question I pose is where were the security men on campus? If these criminals can disguise themselves and enter lecture halls, then the university is not safe."  When it comes to protection against robbery the School security has done nothing not even a single person has ever been caught by the security, I Stand To Be Corrected.

In the beginning of the trimester,  the latest of  this threats of Life been a  cerrtain young lady who was attacked at Gunpoint. She was shot at the Knee around  Ghana  @ 50  Which nearly resulted in  the loss of her life had it not been the timely intervention of people.

Another incident happened on the 22nd October where a  gentleman who happens to be a  residence of Upper West Hall was stab on campus, from sources close to  the victim, blood was really oozing out which could lead to lost of blood. In some instances,  these armed robbers enter lecture halls and even hostels to collect students' phones,  laptops and Money.

With all these incidents happening to students in and around Bamahu,  campus and it's environs, the SRC has not made any statement at least to warn students or to create our awareness of the latest happening or even a sympathetic message to the Victims.
A survey was conducted in response to the increasing attacks on Students in UDS Wa Campus by Www.Ayubadaily.tk to ascertain the reasons behind the attacks.

Questionnaires were designed with the help of Google forms, the link was sent to almost the major WhatsApp groups or Class pages for two (2) good days, Only thirty (30) response were recorded.

Out of the thirty (30), 63.33% says the campus is not safe especially during night whiles 36.67% also says it not safe at all. According to the survey, on lighting system on Campus, 93..33% rated the lighting very poor, 6.667% rated Moderate.

56.667% of the participants rated that the robbery attacks occurs as a result of Poor security supervision on the part of the School security and the Wa Police Service,  43.33%  rated that poor lighting systems, 43.33% recommended that the school should have a Police station on campus, 23.33% also recommended the Street lights should be fixed especially from the entrance to the campus inside, 33.33% also recommended that the bushes around Spanish Lab and the various Hall of residence walk way should be cleared.

Enough is a Enough!! The SRC and School authority must find a solution to the problem before what Dr. Kwame Nkrumah once said come to pass "Ghanaians are not timid as has been suggested in the foreign press. Far from it. They may be slow to anger and take time to organize and act. But once they are ready they strike, and strike hard. It pays no one to tamper with Ghanaian freedom and dignity."

Without the students no SRC, without The students no UDS Wa Campus, if  students lives are in danger then it calls for actions now or never.
